"His life a beautiful memory
His absence a silent grief."

Chris - 2000

These pages have been made in memory of my brother Chris who was suddenly and tragically killed when the coach he was traveling in was struck by an articulated lorry on the A1 by Wittering at 9.30pm on the 21st August 2000. Two other boys sadly also lost their lives, they are Wayne Maynard (18) and Jason Adnitt (15).

I can’t even begin to explain to you the emotions that I felt the night the news was broken. I was scared, angry, upset, sick and so much more. The world as I knew it was now gone and I was left to pick up the pieces.

Chris was truly one in a million and I am so proud to say he is my big brother. When I think about him, I miss the things I never knew I could, but most of all I miss the things that should have been. He should have been allowed to grow up into a man, drive a car, have a family of his own. I know he would of made such a great dad. I should have been allowed to become an aunt to his children and a sister-in-law.

Not only have I lost my big brother, I have lost a lifetime friend, rival, ally and confidante. My parents have lost their only son, my grandparents their first grandson and his friends have lost a once in a lifetime friend. His life was so special he will always live on in the hearts of those he loved and those of whom love him.

Chris had always been popular and loved nothing better than spending time with his friends. He was a great listener and also brilliant to just have a laugh with. He was always joking and could make what seemed like a big problem into nothing with a few words. Anyone who knew him would be able to tell you about his orange trousers and his 'sheep jacket' which he was very well known for!

He enjoyed playing football, listening to music, being a member of the Air Training Corps, which is a branch of the Royal Air Force for younger people, here he was able to fly in planes, practice shooting and go on camps, which is what he was taking part in when he lost his life. He also enjoyed just being around the people he loved.

A great love of Chris' was football.
You could always rely on him,
apart from if there was a good football match on!

I hope by reading about my brother, you are able to take away and remember him, his smile and his love. I want to thank everyone who made his life so special and those who have helped me through this very difficult time.

And to Chris, I miss you so much and I can’t wait until I am able to see your cheeky smile again. I love you more than words can say. The final goodbye is impossible for me to say, so take care until we meet again.
